June 15, 2008well, this time the pictures are not very good, or maybe I am too tired to choose the nice ones.. however, we had a wonderful time in Brussel. thanks to Johnny we saw sooooo many great things… I shall write about the Museum of Fine Arts whenever I am more inspired, I woke up at 4am today, I can’t even remember the name of Burne-Jones painting. hmmmmm….
Friday Evening
June 15, 2008Well, this was our second evening in Brussel. John decided to convince Alex that there is nothing better than Belgian beer and as it heavily rained we made a pub-tour.
I admit not really being fit for BB!!! the weakest starts at 5% and goes up to 12% or something?! I had one the whole evening and it was enough. After 1am I decided it’s sleepig time… no idea how many beers the guys had, but by the time the taxi came for us they had strange eyes…
comment on the blond guys… nice norwegian doctors. the younger one is calles sigmund, like freud, and is very funny
. who would believe this? a funny norwegian… we have to change our view of scandinavians here… God likes surprises… indeed he does…
Belgian beer

Atomium
June 15, 2008“The Atomium is a monument built for Expo ‘58, the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair. Designed by André Waterkeyn, it is 102-metre (335-feet) tall, with nine steel spheresconnected so that the whole forms the shape of a unit cellof an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times.
Tubes which connect the spheres along the 12 edges of the cube and all eight vertices to the centre enclose escalators connecting the spheres which contain exhibit halls and other public spaces. The top sphere provides a panoramic view of Brussels. Each sphere is 18 metres in diameter. Three spheres are currently (2008) closed to the visitors, others are easily reachable with escalator. The vertical vertex contains a lift which was considered very fast and advanced at the time of building (the speed is 5 m/s).”
It was such a peaceful feeling to lie down and gaze (because it was gazing) at the imense silver construction above. A sort of peace of mind… Strange somehow, but in a nice way :)

Brussel – Flemish for Brussels :)
June 10, 2008The pics are at home but I wait for some data and I thought I will write some words… However… I was impressed by Brussel… before we left, I was told that Brussel is such a dull city and grey and boring… but I was amazed to find a place of delicate beauty and wonderful colours. Not even the messy weather could make it grey…
I very much liked the buildings with all their details and plants flowing down along the walls (strange description, but it really looked like it), the nice small galeries with L’Art d’Afrique Noir, the lovely chocolateries, the snake-like streets, the statues and the great, great, great Museum of Fine Arts… So we did not go to Brugge or Gent, but stayed in Brussel and visited as much as we could… Alex was very surprised, he expected paleness as well…
The other very positive thing was meeting Marlies`s friend John! He is such a wonderful person… I can hardly remember knowing anyone like him… you will see the pictures
